Tan Kok Quan, is a consultant to Tan Kok Quan Partnership and had been the firm's managing partner. He is a well-respected litigator with
more than 30 years' experience who began his legal career as an
Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court in 1969.
He has acted in a number of
high-visibility trials spanning matters as diverse and varied in
scope as defamation, commercial crime, shareholders' disputes, trusts
and professional negligence. He has represented both private and
governmental clients on a wide spectrum of matters, with complex
commercial cases as a particular speciality.
In recognition of his exceptional
advocacy skills, he was among the first group of lawyers in Singapore
to be appointed as Senior Counsel. In 1999, he was acclaimed by
Euromoney magazine to be one of the top 100 litigation lawyers in
the world.
He has acted as counsel in
both domestic and international disputes, and at various forums
such as the courts of law, statutory tribunals and disciplinary
tribunals. Recognising the importance of the alternative dispute
resolution process, he has also been active in mediation and arbitration.
In addition to his expertise as an advocate in the alternative dispute
resolution process, he also acts regularly as an arbitrator and
a mediator. In this regard, he has previously been appointed to
act as an arbitrator by the International Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Tan has sat on the boards
of financial institutions as well as various private and public
companies in Singapore. These appointments are testament to the
high regard and esteem in which he is held by the business community.
In 1994, he was awarded the Public Service Medal for his role as
a member of the Singapore Armed Forces Military Court of Appeal.
