The Firm’s family law and
matrimonial practice group has the relevant expertise
and experience in all aspects of family law.
Besides handling the usual matters relating to adoption,
divorces, custody care and control of minor children,
maintenance (alimony) and division of matrimonial assets,
we regularly advise clients on the financial implications
of a divorce prior to the commencement of any divorce
proceedings. This will entail what the client may be
paying or receiving as maintenance (alimony), the
financial implications of divorce on business, whether
it is a sole, joint or family-run concern, and division
of all matrimonial assets. Such advice helps our clients
to decide on how, when and where to commence matrimonial
proceedings.
The Firm was also involved in an important case which
dealt with the divisibility of stock options as matrimonial
assets. The cases handled by our matrimonial department
have also involved many cross-border disputes. These
cases deal with issues of jurisdiction of the Singapore
Courts in respect of the marriage and ancillary matters.
Issues relating to matrimonial assets located overseas
and out of jurisdiction also feature regularly in the
matters handled by the department.
