Pupillage
Our Pupillage Programme
Introduction
Choosing the right firm for pupillage is a major decision which
every law undergraduate faces.
If you are a dynamic and motivated
individual with good academic results, we can offer you a challenging
and exciting career with one of the leading law practices in Singapore.
Recruitment and Training
Programme
The firm invites applications from suitable undergraduates for pupillage
places. We recruit pupils with a view to retention. In this regard,
our focus is on ensuring that our pupils are trained to become competent
lawyers.
At Tan Kok Quan Partnership,
the training that our pupils and junior associates receive focuses
on determining practical solutions to clients' problems.
The firm offers pupils the
choice of undergoing a single seat in one department, or being rotated
through the various departments. In any case, each pupil will be
assigned one or more mentors to guide him or her through the period
of pupillage. Further, we have a policy of enabling pupils and junior
associates to work directly with senior partners who are specialists
in their respective fields.
The size of the firm makes
it relatively easy to achieve the objective of pupils and junior
associates interacting and working with the senior partners. We
recognise that each individual is different, and we nurture each
pupil accordingly so that he or she can realise his or her own potential.
As lawyers from different practice groups usually work in teams
to provide best possible service to clients, our pupils will have
hands-on exposure to varied areas of legal practice.
International Exposure
Given the globalisation of legal services, Singapore lawyers need
to adopt an international outlook. The firm has a policy of sending
suitable associates overseas for attachments with foreign law firms
or barristers' chambers.
Firm's Culture
We offer a friendly, exciting and intellectually-stimulating working
environment. Firm functions are held often to develop camaraderie.
As a medium-sized firm, you will have every opportunity to interact
with virtually all the lawyers in the firm, both professionally
and socially. While we expect our lawyers to give the best of their
time and effort to attend to clients' needs, we also realise the
need for our lawyers to have a good quality of life and develop
pursuits outside the law. It is important to us that our lawyers
have time to pursue their individual interests outside the office.
In recognition of this, the firm operates on a 5-day week.
Resources and Facilities
At Tan Kok Quan Partnership, we recognise that pupils must be fully
equipped for pupillage if they are to benefit fully from their pupillage
programme. Pupils are therefore provided with their own individual
workstations and desktop internet access including access to various
research libraries.
Remuneration
Tan Kok Quan Partnership acknowledges the importance of attracting
pupils of quality and calibre to the firm, and accordingly offers
an attractive and competitive allowance for our pupils.
In addition, our pupils can
expect:-
• a discretionary year-end bonus
• the opportunity to participate in all the firm's social
activities, including firm trips abroad
• reimbursement of the Practice Law Course fees (upon retention
by the firm)
• reimbursement of all fees incurred in filing and stamping
your call-papers (upon retention by the firm)
